Guide
Why is my business not showing on Google Maps?
When a business does not show on Google Maps, customers call whoever does. The cause is usually one of a short list, and most can be checked in a few minutes from public data.

First, check whether the profile exists
- 1Search the exact business name and city on Google Maps.
- 2If nothing comes up, search the phone number; an old or duplicate listing may be under another name.
- 3If a listing appears, open it and check the name, address, phone, hours and category.
- 4Then search the main service the way a customer would, for example “emergency plumber near me”, from an address in the area the business serves.
The usual reasons it is missing or buried
- The profile was never claimed or verified, or verification is pending
- The profile is suspended, often after an edit to the name or address
- The primary category is wrong or too broad for the searches that matter
- The searcher is far from the business; distance weighs heavily in map results
- Fewer and older reviews than the competitors ranking above it
- A name, address or phone that differs between the website and directory listings
- A thin profile: no services, few photos, missing hours
- A duplicate listing that splits reviews and confuses Google
What fixes it
- Claim and verify the profile, then keep the details identical everywhere
- Choose the most specific primary category and add the right secondary ones
- List every service, add real photos and keep hours current
- Ask every happy customer for a review, steadily rather than in bursts
- Merge or remove duplicate listings
- Build a page on the website for each core service and the areas served
Checking this for a list of businesses
Lexir looks up each business’s Google Business Profile, checks where it shows on the map for its main searches, and compares its reviews with the nearby competitors that rank above it. For an agency, a business missing from the map is one of the easiest gaps to show on a first call.
Questions
How long does it take to show up on Google Maps?
A newly verified profile can appear within days, but ranking well for competitive searches usually takes weeks of reviews, complete details and consistent listings.
Why does my business show up for its name but not for my service?
A name search only proves the profile exists. Service searches are ranked by relevance, distance and prominence, so the category, services, reviews and the searcher’s location decide who shows.
Can I pay to rank higher on Google Maps?
Not in the organic map results. Google Ads can place a business in the sponsored spots above them, but the organic ranking depends on the profile itself.
